10,100 hectares (ca. 25,000 acres), of which 4,110 hectares consist of water surfaces.

Established
1998.

Location
Along the Dalälven River at the conjunction of Västmanland, Dalarna and Gävleborg counties.

Purpose of the national park
Through the establishment of Färnebofjärden National Park, a unique riverine landscape with surrounding wetlands and valuable forest will be preserved in essentially pristine condition.

Also:
The area's plant and animal life will be preserved in natural condition, to the fullest extent possible.  

Natural hydrologic conditions and river rapids will be preserved. The aquatic environment will be protected to the fullest extent possible.

Certain sites of historical interest will be preserved. 

Appropriate measures will be taken to facilitate the general public's access to and enjoyment of the area.

Elk/Moose
(Alces alces)

When an elk stands in the water near the shore, dining on the roots of water lilies, one might think that it is some sort of Swedish water buffalo as it splashes about in evident great pleasure. Otherwise, it keeps to the aspen woods; young aspen shoots are among its favourite foods.
